England Vs Pakistan Betting Tips

In recent years, we’ve gotten used to seeing very familiar names in the England squad. However, after a Coronavirus scare in the England squad, they have been forced to select an entire new squad, meaning that the 18 members of the squad were initially unselected. They face Pakistan who they haven’t faced since the 2019 ODI World Cup when Pakistan won by 14 runs as the backorder lost three wickets for just two runs. The squad change means that Ben Stokes returns to the squad after taking a small break after the IPL. Stokes joins the squad in the middle of Durham’s County Championship draw with Warwickshire. After narrowly losing to India and dominating Sri Lanka, England came into this series with something to prove. However, now it has turned into a trial series of a group of fringe players. Every player in this squad has something to prove and this is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate exactly why they should be in the squad.

England are a side that have been painfully inconsistent in the ODI format. They have a positive win ratio against every nation above them but at the same time have suffered defeats to the likes of Scotland and Ireland who are ranked 14th and 12th respectively. They have only won two ODI series since winning the ODI World Cup in Summer 2019.

Pakistan have just four wins in 26 ODI’s against the teams that join England in the top four of the ODI rankings. The majority of those wins have also come in major competitions rather than in previous ODI series’. They have won all of their ODI series since the 2019 World Cup but have only faced opposition outside the top four.

When Pakistan have beaten England, it has often come in a big tournament. In a normal series, England tend to have the advantage over their opponents. However, the question is whether those who are new to the squad can pick up where their predecessors left off.

Usually, this bet would be a bit of a gamble, however, given how England’s opening batsmen aren’t their usual opening partnership. We think that Pakistan will take an early wicket, the only doubt we have is regarding how long Pakistan’s batsmen can withstand the England bowling attack.

England’s batting line-up still contains some formidable names. Perhaps the most dangerous of those is Dawid Malan, who recently broke the record for the quickest batsman to reach 1,000 runs. He took just 24 innings which is an average of 41 runs. In a T20 format where scores are often short, he is definitely worth a punt at 7/5 here.

Even before a coronavirus scare completely changed the England squad, there were arguments that Jake Ball should be considered for England at ODI level. He is a fantastic bowler who, if he can reach the potential he showed in his debut ODI for England against Pakistan, he will win the Top Wicket Taker award in the first test.
