Royal Ascot Day 3: Betting Tips & Guide

Royal Ascot is one of the most established events on the British racing calendar, and the third day tends to attract quite a bit of attention since it happens to be ladies’ day.

This is also a day dedicated to style, glamour, and fashion on top of the general enthusiasm for horse races. Racegoers showcase their stylish outfits and it’s not just the ladies either. The men are rarely outdone as they also put their most elegant foot forward, to make sure they’re in keeping with the tone of the event.

Ultimately though, the focus is still on the horses, the jockeys, and the races. Day 3 sees the Gold Cup and the Buckingham Palace stakes, among others, and there are plenty of opportunities to place a bet. Our detailed guide will give you a real insight into the Day Three Royal Ascot races.

Royal Ascot Day 3 tips

There are a wide range of races and betting markets available for those looking to place a bet on Day 3 of the Royal Ascot. The ante-post market is the first, and this opens well in advance of the race, when the entries are first declared. Another option is the live betting market, which opens about 48 hours before the start of the race, at the point when the final declarations are made.

You can bet on your favourite horse to win outright or place in the top three, or consider an each-way bet, which is when you predict that a horse will either win or place. You could also place an accumulator bet, which allows you to bet on multiple races across the day. The latter is more suitable for experienced bettors.

Before you bet, it’s a good idea to study the details of the races and the form of the runners, as well as the odds being offered. You can check out the current betting odds for all the Royal Ascot Day 3 events right here in our sports betting markets.

Royal Ascot Day 3 tips: Ribblesdale Stakes

The Ribblesdale Stakes is a Group Two flat race run over twelve furlongs for three-year-olds fillies. Only two of the last 12 winners were favourites or joint favourites, and eight out of the last 12 winners placed in the top three in the betting at race start. Half of the last 12 winners had won on their last run before the Ribblesdale Stakes, and eight of them had at least one previous win that season.

Royal Ascot tips Day 3: Gold Cup

The Gold Cup is the headline race on Day 3 and is a Group One flat race run over 20 furlongs. It is open to any horse of four years or more, and all the last 12 winners were aged four, five, or six.

Royal Ascot Day 3 tips: Hampton Court Stakes

The Hampton Court Stakes, previously known as the Tercentenary Stakes, is a Group Three flat race run over 10 furlongs. It’s open to three-year-olds only and excludes previous winners of Group One and Two races. Four of the last 12 winners were favourites, and eight of them were in the top three in the betting. Royal Ascot tips Day 3: Buckingham Palace Stakes

This Handicap event is a flat race run over seven furlongs, open to any horse of three years or more. There are fewer recent stats available for this one, due to it having been cancelled from 2015 to 2019, only returning to the racing schedule in 2020.

However, we can tell you that all of the last seven winners were aged four or older. Interestingly, none of the last seven winners were favourites, or even placed in the top three, and all were priced at 12/1 or higher, meaning this is truly a race where the unexpected can — and does — happen.

Royal Ascot Day 3 tips

One of our top Royal Ascot Day 3 betting tips is just to consider the stats. Study the form of the runners and keep the race details we’ve outlined above in mind. Betting on a favourite feels safe, but with some of these races, as you can see, the favourites are rarely the winners and betting odds tend to be lower.

Feel free to try a few different bet types if that appeals to you as well. If you’re new to betting on Royal Ascot races, you might prefer to stick with a simple each-way bet. If you’ve been studying form and think you may be able to pick multiple winners, consider an accumulator bet.
